Recently, my assistance was requested for a project which called for some flashwork. The last version that I did use was Flash 7. With this in mind this past weekend was the first time I got to use CS3 (9) and CS4 (10) which were developed by Adobe as they acquired Macromedia in December 2005. Here's my overall observations of how flash has been handled by both companies.
Macromedia Flash - A solid multimedia platform that worked pretty well for the pre-broadband age of the internet and had a solid authoring package.
Adobe Flash - A bloated piece of shit that is whored out in webads, uses a ton of unnecessary javascript, and has alot of performance issues. In addition, Actionscript 3.0 programming feels like pulling teeth and the authoring software has stability issues. The biggest kick in the nuts is that with CS3 they DOUBLED the price of the authoring software.
FUCK YOU ADOBE!!! FUCK YOU FOR BEING A BUNCH OF JACKASSES THAT LOVES TO MAKE PROPRIETARY FORMATS AND MAKE AWFUL AUTHORING SOFTWARE FOR THOSE FORMATS! MOST OF ALL FUCK YOU FOR RUINING MACROMEDIA'S PRODUCTS WHICH WERE ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD. (Espically fireworks which was a great photoshop alternative.)
