A British magician and inventor, Maskelyne's act of wrecking the public demo of Marconi's wireless telegraph has many considering him to be the world's first hacker. Four days after this, the magician would reveal himself as being the hacker and doing it for the public good. However, another reason for this may have been that Maskelyne may have done this as he had sent wireless messages between a ground station and a balloon ten miles away in 1900, but could not further develop his implementation of wireless telegraphy due to Marconi's broad patents.
