new to linux

hey iv been a WINDOWS user through and through and iv decided to try linux out.. seems interesting but VERY frustrating since every thing seems so diff compared to windows... and im havint a bitch of a time trying to install my ati radeon 9550 graphics card, iv tried multiple things on-line but cant get it to work or know what i did worked or not O.o im starting on ubuntu case it was a small DL.. any ideas or help?
