firewalls

hi,
I am a student at a boarding school that has a firewall on the Ethernet connection. The name of the fire wall is Fortiguard. I am a new to hacking and eager to learn. Please help my get around it. I have tried various proxy websites and they have all failed including Google translate. If you could give me some advice that would be much appreciated.
