Java programming

Hey everyone, i'am new here and i'am also new to programming..... I just know the basics about C, i used to compile some programs on DEV C....
I was starting to try to learn something about java, so i have downloaded JDK and NetBeans IDE but i couldn't understand how to compile a program there, after writing the source code of the program i couldn't build it....
If anyone here could teach me something about java, compilers, and the basics....
I'am also developing C programs and learn a bit more.....
(Sorry for the english..... I'am Portuguese and my english skills kinda suck )
