Emmanuel Goldstein
Born in 1959, Emmanuel Goldstein is the founder, editor, and publisher of 2600: The Hacker Quarterly. During his time working on the publication, he testified before the US Congress in 1993, lost a legal battle against the MPAA as one of the defendants in Universal VS Reimerdes (Their unsuccessful attempt to squelch DeCSS), was arrested on August 31st 2004 while filming a demonstration against the Republican National Convention for 'disorderly conduct'. (All charges would be dropped in a preliminary hearing.)
John Perry Barlow
John Perry Barlow is a lyricist, futurist, author and cyber rights activist. Along with John Gilmore, he co-founded and still co-chairs the Electronic Frontier Foundation. He was the first to apply the term Cyberspace to the "place" it presently describes.
He is currently a Berkman Fellow at the Harvard Law School.
John Markoff
John Markoff (born October 24, 1949) is a journalist best known for his work at the The New York Times, and a book and series of articles about the 1990s pursuit and capture of hacker Kevin Mitnick.
