The 2009 Wallpaper Contest is coming to an end on 04-30-2010. Hurry up and get those wallpapers turned in people. Once the contest ends, we will be opening up a poll to let the community decide the winner. The winner will receive a free shirt and VIP access. We are also happy to announce that the VIP server is up and running smoothly, so please request access if you have not already. Everybody has been extremely busy these past few months, but I expect things to get much better in May due to summer vacation (many SX members are still in school). More updates to come...
Amp has decided to retire from the group, as announced in his blog. He said that he has too many other commitments and his heart just isn't into it anymore. We thank him for his many years of service, and will welcome him back with open arms if he decides to return to the group in the future. As his last wish before retirement, he asked for grey (formerly grey_to_black) to be promoted to a full crew member. After careful analysis, we have decided that grey has worked hard and deserves the promotion. Congratulations grey, you've earned it. We look forward to your future contributions to the group and community.
We are making some awesome changes to VIP. We are setting up a private server for VIP members that will offer them web hosting, email, and full shell access. Due to the large number of VIP users, Blake has created a VIP database for us to manage all of this information. If you are a VIP member, you may receive an email from him asking for missing information. Please get this information to him as soon as possible, we will be using it to verify that your account is setup properly on both the web server and the new private server. Thank you to everybody that has become a VIP, we are hoping to have some really awesome VIP releases by the end of this month.
If you've been on the site the past few days, you might have noticed it going down for maintenance more often than usual. There were some issues with some data that was on our site, so we've been tracking it down and making fixes while trying to maximize uptime. All issues seem to be resolved, but let us know if you find anything that seems buggy. I am now working on a few theme updates and bringing the web irc client back. Thanks to everybody who attended to SX Party despite the bad weather, it was a good time for all. We did take some video, but it will not be distributed to the public. We do not know when the next party will be, but we will try to announce the next one months ahead of time.
This Friday (March 12, 2010) will be the first SX gathering in almost 10 years! An open invitation has been extended to all VIP and Crew members. The event will be starting at 6pm at a private location in the state of Indiana. We will start out with a few speeches and then move into the night with inspiring music from some of the hottest European club artists. Enjoy a night where social restrictions are left at the door and you can feel free to be your self without judgment. We will be playing electronic dance music - including house, trance, goa, ambient and techno with the accompaniment of laser light shows, projected images and some special guests. If you are interested in this event, please contact RaT.
First off, I would like to thank everybody that has been contributing to our forums. I've enjoyed reading some of the discussions that have been going on. Secondly, I would like to welcome Pirrup and Kayin into the High Council. They have really proven to be invaluable assets to our group, so the time has come to give them a voice in the direction that we are going. In order to restore the power of SX, myself and sn4ggl3 have formed a new ranking known as the "New Order". The purpose is to restore SX to its former glory with the most skilled members. In order to join the New Order, a member of the High Council has to pass a series of extreme tests related to exploitation and security. Through the formation of this new sect, myself and sn4ggl3 are able to break away and focus on the most complex problems needed for the group's success. By adding highly skilled members such as Kayin and Pirrup to the High Council, we are increasing the value of the High Council voting system.
As many of you probably already know, we have been working hard to make SOLDIERX more organized and efficient. Our previous addition of inductee status did wonders for getting fresh talent in the group. Unfortunately, it has suffered in the same way that our previous membership suffered - a few really unproductive individuals are able to cause everybody to want to slack off. Based on traffic analysis, it seems that these unproductive inductees were simply using their inductee status to gain access to restricted content without having to pay any dues, such as VIP costs. The high council has thought long and hard about how to solve this problem, and we have finally come up with a solution. Our solution is the new recruit status. It enables people to join the group in a "recruitment" phase where their only additional perk is the ability to add certain types of content to the site.
CriticalMass has returned from the ashes of yesteryear to rejoin the ranks of the SX Crew. His initial plans are to write some tutorials for the site. He is also working to drive more traffic to the site. For anybody who doesn't know, CriticalMass was part of the group circa 2003 and was the first member to give a speech at Defcon. He also has been mentioned in books such as The Art of Intrusion by Kevin Mitnick. Welcome back!
Greetings to everybody in the world of the wired. I am very happy to announce that we have broken all previous site hit records with a record 1,295,063 hits for the month of January 2010. A year ago in January 2009, we only had 168,293 hits. I think that it's safe to say that we're on a full fledged comeback. While our ranks and projects are growing rapidly, we could still use more help. If you have a unique set of technical skills, consider joining us. If you just enjoy using the site, please consider becoming a VIP member. If you're a VIP member, please test out our early releases of Agent Steal and SX OFACE and let us know what we can do to improve them.
